What is renewable energy?

Renewable energy is energy that comes from natural sources that are constantly replenished, such as sunlight, wind, water, and biomass. Unlike fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas), renewable energy sources do not run out and produce little to no greenhouse gas emissions.
Common examples of renewable energy include:
  • Solar power: Using sunlight to generate electricity or heat.
  • Wind power: Using wind turbines to generate electricity.
  • Hydropower: Using flowing water to produce electricity.
  • Biomass: Using organic materials like wood or agricultural waste for energy.
  • Geothermal energy: Using heat from the earth.
Switching to renewable energy helps reduce carbon emissions, lowers energy bills, and supports a cleaner, more sustainable future.
