How Can We Help?
What Is the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)?
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a government-backed initiative designed to help households across the UK improve their home’s energy efficiency through better insulation. The scheme provides funding and support for installing insulation measures—such as loft, cavity wall, and solid wall insulation—making it easier and more affordable for people to keep their homes warmer and reduce energy bills.
GBIS is aimed at helping a wider range of households, including those who may not qualify for other funding schemes like ECO. Both homeowners and private tenants can benefit, and eligibility is based on factors such as property type, energy performance, and sometimes household income.
We are approved assesors and installers for West Lotian Council and South Lanarkshire Council.
By taking part in the GBIS, you can enjoy a warmer, more comfortable home, lower energy costs, and a reduced carbon footprint.
Who Is Eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)?
Eligibility for the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is designed to help a broad range of households access funding for home insulation improvements. You may be eligible if:
- You own your home or rent privately: Both homeowners and private tenants can apply (with landlord permission).
- Your property has a low energy efficiency rating: Typically, homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below are prioritised.
- You are in Council Tax bands A–D (England) or A–E (Wales and Scotland): The scheme is targeted at properties in these bands to help those most in need.
- You may not need to be on benefits: Unlike some other schemes, GBIS is open to a wider range of households, not just those receiving government benefits.
- Some households on low incomes or considered vulnerable may receive additional support or be prioritised for funding.
- If you’re unsure about your eligibility, our team can check your property’s EPC rating and Council Tax band, and guide you through the application process. We’re here to help you access the support you need for a warmer, more energy-efficient home.
